There are an infinite amount of ways to choose your makeup looks. Makeup has all kinds of styles, so today I’m going to explain a few of my favorites! This YouTube video by Denitslava Makeup called “5 EASY Makeup Looks Anyone Can Do!” provides examples of makeup looks that range from everyday looks to ones that are more intense.

The natural style of makeup is very minimal. It typically is just meant to enhance certain facial features, and doesn’t do a whole lot of extra coverage or bold colors. It is subtle and soft. Natural makeup styles tend to use neutral color palettes that easily blend into your skin tone. It seems light and airy. On Tati Westbrook’s Instagram account for her makeup line called Tati Beauty, she posted a picture of herself wearing natural and neutral-colored makeup, and the caption announced that her Textured Neutrals eyeshadow palette was available for purchase.
Evening/nighttime makeup looks go for more of a bold look. They tend to involve darker colors to spice things up since you’re probably loosening up a bit after school or work and want to have some fun. This smokey eyeshadow look by MetDaan Makeup on Pinterest shows the process of how she makes smokey winged eyeliner, perfect for a night out on
the town.

Pastel looks are becoming popular because of 2019’s spring trend, according to Well + Good’s article called “Spring’s Freshest Makeup Trend Is Honestly so Easy to Wear.” These colors are light and playful, and can add a modern twist to your makeup look. I personally love the lavender and ice blue looks. You can stick with one or two colors, or go for a rainbow look. I love this eyeshadow look because it’s a unique way of looking at how you can shape your makeup with the wing and ghost wing in the crease, leaving everything else on the eyelids alone.

Fall is here, so of course I have to talk about Fall/seasonal makeup looks. These looks really play on what the holidays are or what the weather is like. Fall makeup looks tend to use a lot of warm colors such as reds, oranges, and browns because of the changing leaves outside. Just like how Christmas looks would probably involve red, green or white, or the Fourth of July would have red, white, and blue. L'oreal's makeup.com released an article about “6 Fall Makeup Looks Currently Trending on Pinterest” and provides different examples of Fall looks depending on how complex you want your look to be (I am LOVING this lipstick color btw).

Glam makeup is often very bright or dramatic. People who do glam looks are not afraid of color or standing out. They like pushing what their makeup can do! A person that comes to mind when I think of full glam looks is Manny Gutierrez, but better known as Manny MUA on his YouTube channel and other social media accounts. In this look of his, he uses vibrant contrasting colors to create a striking cut crease look. Typically when a lot of attention goes to the eyes, makeup users use a neutral lip color to tie in the look.
Drag makeup is typically worn by people who identify as male and they create over-the-top feminine characteristics with their makeup looks, often for extravagant performances. Gigi Goode is a famous drag queen who appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 12. In their Instagram post, Gigi goes all in with the blush, even bringing it up above the eyebrow and on the bridge of their nose. They exaggerated the thinness of their eyebrows and made their lips large and luscious. Work it, queen!

Makeup is so diverse and is used to express so many things and so many different kinds of people. Now that you’ve been able to see a variety of makeup styles and looks, I hope you find something that you gravitate to and inspires you to go out and create your own looks!
Next time, we’ll be talking about how COVID-19 has changed the makeup game, and I’ll give you some mask hacks that will help your makeup stay put underneath your mask. See you soon, raineglows! 🌈✨
